Conference

June 9 and 10, 2021

Welcome to the DIC 2021. You can find all detailed information below in the agenda.

Day 1

  • 9 - 9:45 am
    Keynote Speech
Sometimes it seems life itself is a virus

COVID-19, Encrochat, massive and recurring data breaches and ransomware attacks, artificial intelligence gone wild, etc., etc. The dynamics of global insecurity ... digital and otherwise and all the related threats ... are eerily similar to the lead-up to the pandemic. It can sound like a cacophony. And just like with the pandemic, the alarm has been ringing about digital security for decades, but we are just hitting snooze instead of waking up and dealing with the threat. Let's unpack some of this and look at the vulnerability of networked systems and think about it in terms's of DIC's three main themes this year: traditional digital investigations, cloud investigations and open source intelligence.

Presented by Gregory Bufithis, CEO, Luminative Media

    Oxygen Forensics
Overcoming device security with Oxygen Forensic Detective

Top 3 answers on the board, here is the question: What do people ask first about technology and device extraction? #1 Can you bypass screen locks? YES! #2 Can you access encrypted devices? YES! #3 Is there additional cost for this? NO! This conversation is an Android-related device and chipset attack-fest targeting Huawei, Samsung, Qualcomm, MediaTek and others. The idea is to learn to fish for yourself and be successful in-house without sending devices out for help at additional cost! Attend this session to learn about the latest methods of device extraction and decryption in Oxygen Forensic Detective.

    Rampiva
Skating to the Puck: Three Ways to Use the Cloud to Solve problems
    • Auto-scaling hardware resources to accelerate data processing to new heights;
    • Leveraging local and cloud resources on the same project; and
    • Controlling costs through resource and Case management.

You may have heard the saying “…skate to where the puck is going.” All due respect to Wayne Gretsky, in most things in this world, things move less quickly than a hockey puck. Most professionals have to be able to live and work in two timelines—where the puck is today, and where it is going in the future. The cloud is a great example of that, which creates real operational and tactical challenges.

In this session, Forensic & Discovery Experts will gain practical insight on how Rampiva clients are leveraging Azure and AWS to support their end clients today while preparing for the operating environments of tomorrow.

Presented by Daniel Botaneau - CEO, Rampiva & Bill Potter - Vice President Sales, Rampiva

Day 2

    Cobwebs
    Automating Web Investigation with Cobwebs

The increasing use of social media, mobile apps, and the dark web has led to significant growth of illegal activities on the internet. These platforms are used by criminals, terrorists, and hackers who are able to conduct operations with minimal visibility. Enterprises, as well as government agencies, deal with manual web investigations on a day-to-day basis facing the various challenges in exposing their digital footprint. Web Intelligence has become a crucial part of intelligence methodologies and security management.

Cobwebs offers a solution in the form of an automated web investigation platform, which enables analysts to easily identify new targets and groups, reveal hidden data, and complete an entire investigation within minutes. Users can gain deep insights, including locations, context, internal relations, group structure, hierarchies, and more. Follow the Digital Money Trail: Intro to Cryptocurrency Tracing

This workshop will introduce the nuts and bolts of cryptocurrency use and investigations. Since 2013 there has been a consistent decrease in reported bulk cash seizures by agencies throughout the United States. Trends indicate that this due to increased cryptocurrency use by criminals in favor of cash. The lack of cash seizure for known cash intensive activities should be an automatic red flag for potential cryptocurrency usage to obfuscate and move funds. The signs of cryptocurrency usage can easily be overlooked by investigators unfamiliar with what to look for. Attendees will learn how to be on the look-out for cryptocurrency use in investigations.

Attendees will learn about blockchain forensics, with a specific focus on tracing cryptocurrency. Tracing can be used to uncover criminal uses of cryptocurrency, including money laundering, payment fraud and terrorist financing, and provide strong evidence of funds flow or ill-gotten gains in a criminal case. Attendees will learn basic approaches to tracing source of cryptocurrency funds and develop an understanding of how blockchain attribution de-anonymizes cryptocurrency transactions.

Presented by Pamela Clegg, Director of Education and Investigations, Ciphertrace
